Connecting wildlife

If you are connected with me through me Instagram or Facebook pages, you might have seen me hanging around this tree with this huge bridge behind me. Behind me you see a nature bridge or as the Dutch call it: an Eco duct. This special bridge connects two sides of a natural environment so animals can cross the highway safely. Remember, me talked about it in E is for…. This bridge behind me is called De Kempengrens and it is a very special bridge. Me shall tell you why.

Throwback Thursday

Every now and then me loves to participate in Throwback Thursday, just like any other monster. Here you see me at Ecomare, Texel. A shelter for seals and other sick animals found on the Dutch beaches. This picture is taken on me first - and until now still me only - visit in 2006. Me really hope to go back there again soon!

O and a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Cookies Dutch Alphabet

On May 16 me started something new on me blog. Like a true Sesame Street Monster me decided to tell you more about the country that me live in through something called the Alphabet. And Cookies Dutch Alphabet was born! Now last week me concluded the Alphabet with, of course, the letter Z. Me like to recap the Alphabet today. Just click on the pictures or the letters and relive your favourite letter. And feel free to drop a note!

Z is for...

…zee (the sea or ocean)! Me love the ocean. It is the home of many beautiful plants and animals. Like the zeehond (seal) and zeeleeuw (sealion) to name just a few beautiful animals. And – that is no coincidence – their names start with the letter Z! Yes me finally got to the last letter of the alphabet.

Cookie’s Kitchen: Speculaas

Hello me friends. With Sinterklaas on his way to the Netherlands me will be sharing a yummy cookie recipe for Speculaas. These yummy cookies are really great with a cup of tea, some coffee with whipped cream and ofcourse with a big, tall glass of cold milk…mmmm! Me love Speculaas-cookies, because of the different, rich spices used in the special Speculaas spices mix. Me will share it with you.

Y is for…

… yoghurt! It is the same word in English as in Dutch, only the way you say it is different. Yoghurt is yummy and here in the Netherlands you can find a lot of different kinds of yoghurts. Fat yoghurt, skinny yoghurt, Greek style yoghurt, strawberry yoghurt, blueberry yoghurt or mixed with other fruits. Even with chocolate sprinkles! Yoghurt is often eaten with breakfast cereals, fresh fruits for dessert, with a little sugar or plain as an extra portion of dairy during the lunch. Also yummy is yoghurt ijs (frozen yoghurt) with pieces of fruit or other toppings. (Above: yoghurt)

Are there more important words with an Y? Nope, not that me can think of. It was a short one this week, but next week me will tell everything about the letter Z! And o boy, o boy that will be an awesome conclusion of my Dutch alphabet. Until next week!

Happy Halloween!

Hello me Cookie Report lovers! It is Halloween! Me is already and dressed up to go trick or treating - although that is not very common here in the Netherlands. Nevertheless, Berry promised me some Halloween cookies, so me is all fine by that. Me is all curious if you will be celebrating Halloween! Please drop me a note and a picture of your costume. O and do not eat all candies at once okay.

X is for…

…xylofoon (xylophone). A word that you almost write the same in Dutch and English. A xylophone is a musical instrument that you can play on with sticks. Another Dutch word with an X is X-ray (it is the same in English). And that is all me know to tell about the letter X. There are not many words in the Dutch dictionary that start with an X that really are interesting for little blue monsters. So me sorry, but this is all there is to this week’s alphabet. (Xylofoon)

And although next week will be a short one too when me talk about letter Y, me promise letter Z will be awesome. Just wait, over two weeks… Bye bye for now!

W is for...

…Walrus (well, it is the same in English as in Dutch…)! Me love the walrus. It is a very gorgeous and relaxed animal. And they have googly eyes like me. At the Dolfinarium in Harderwijk me can visit the Walrus family under water. Me love Raisa. She is very curious, cute and playful. Me have written about this encounter before. A walrus lives in the water. Another w-word that is the same in English and Dutch. They live in the Arctic sea though, so me is glad me can visit them at the zoo.

Lion Sanctuary

You know me love lions right. They are so mysterious and majestic. Poised even. On me Facebook me already posted some pictures of the Lion Sanctuary at Landgoed Hoenderdaell. Here lions, tigers, mountain lions, panthers and other big cats live in a huge sanctuary. Yes they all have their own room – well per family that is. These big cats have been rescued from smugglers and bad zoos or habitats. At the sanctuary they learn to be wild again so they can be released in the wild again. Well, semi-wild, because there are reservations and national parks where the people will look after them. Me was in awe! And me even made a new friend. Do you think he noticed me?
